How You Can Have Healthy Black Hair

Healthy Black Hair

I love all kinds of hairstyles, and I don't mind processed hair as long as you aren't just doing it because you are ashamed of your natural hair. I kind of miss my processed styles and hair extensions, but I can't go back because I love the rewards of wearing my hair naturally in locs. Here's a few tips on how to have hair like mine.

Here are a few common products that black women like to use. These are good, but it's great if you can make your own (I'll research that and blog about it later).

  1. Wash your hair with peppermint soap or something similarly refreshing, and dry it with a towel as much as possible. Allow it to air dry as well if you have time
  2. Apply some sort of lubrication to your scalp, such as almond oil and coconut oil mixed
  3. Secure your hair atop your head into a loose (but secure) pony tail/ bun, so that you can start from the back of your head.
  4. Apply whatever conditioner, beeswax, gel (use a mild/light hold if possible) to the hair at the root, and use a toothbrush or smalltooth comb to straighten the hair before you twist.
  5. Use the palmrolling technique or your fingertips to twist the roots neatly and then twostrand twist your locks before looping them into china bumps or bantu knots (you're creating a hair roller from your own hair, essentially)
  6. This style can be worn out, but it's quite uncomfortable to sleep with. However, the longer you keep them in, the curlier your hair will be and the longer the curls are going to last.
